According to a new study done in the UK, the best smell to get women out of bed is freshly brewed coffee, while men are willing to get up for the smell of fried eggs and bacon. Second on the list of eye-openers for women is a “zingy” shower gel.  Other wake-me-up scents include smell of cut grass, freshly baked bread and even the smell of their partner.

How can you, as a scent marketer, capitalize on this knowledge?

Imagine if companies pumped in coffee aroma to their offices for a set period in the morning. This would wake up their workers, making them more alert, productive, happier and less prone to making errors. Marketers of shower gels could scent their advertising in local newspapers with their product’s fragrance, enticing readers to wake up to that smell every day.
